Lululemon Love

My sister Chrissy had her first Lululemon encounter last week. I think she also experienced love at first sight. We both got some great stuff, to include our Disney Marathon outfits. Hopefully it is not too cold out because we are both planning on wearing black running skirts and red tanks. (in different styles of course)

I warned Chrissy while trying on tons of different things to be cautious….I typically have a minor stroke when presenting my credit card to the sales person at the register. She treated herself to a few select items to include some crops, a tank, a long sleeve shirt and a skirt. I was planning on getting a pair of crops and a tank and ended up getting 3 tanks instead.

I had my eye on these sweat bands, but was unsure if I wanted to spend the additional $14.99. Once the sales person gave me my total I told Chrissy that I really wanted them but I couldn’t spend one more penny.  The sales person said….”you know what….I am going to give them to you as a promo item!”

They are adorable with a pocket for a key or Blistex, a cute ruffle and a reflective stripe.

I of course accepted and thanked her a million times on our way out. Funny how free sweat bands could bring so much joy to my life. I guess I was just shocked about how thoughtful it was of her to offer them to me. Maybe this is why Lululemon has so many loyal customers.

Hurricane Isaac 12 Miler

My sister Chrissy and nephew Brayden came for a visit this weekend! We all really enjoyed the beautiful weather from hurricane Isaac. J/K To be honest is was a nice excuse to stay home and lay around...although I am sure it is not what they had in mind for their Florida vacation.

Chrissy and I were supposed to run 15 miles on Sunday morning...I moved the run up to Saturday morning because I figured the weather would be better. We got up at 6am and I checked the radar. It didn't look promising but we figured we would give it a shot anyway. We double wrapped our iPhones in plastic baggies and hit the road. It started raining within .3 miles from home but we continued on. I made the wise decision to loop back around to the house and drop off our phones. I was not willing to risk it.

We ended up finishing 12 miles in the pouring rain. We could have sucked it up to finish the planned 15, but our feet were completely soaked and we were starting to get a little prune like.

We had hoped that Brayden would sleep in a little bit but were not so lucky. Uncle Ryan was happy to get up and entertain him while we were gone though. They built a fort in the living room and played with water balloons in the driveway with the neighborhood kids. Brayden had the time of his life. Mommy never would have let him play in the rain with his PJ's on!

Crossfit

What a successful week so far!  Ryan and I are giving a crossfit a shot and we are really enjoying it. My body is so sore it literally hurts to sleep. Since I have been running I have not had time to focus on any strength training. Crossfit seems to be a perfect workout for me. The sessions are short and  intense and the workouts are different every day. I am super competitive so I have been killing myself to try and keep up with the boys.

Monday- Crossfit followed by a 5 mile run
Tuesday- Crossfit followed by an 8 mile run
Wednesday- Crossfit followed by a 6 mile run

Maybe I was extra motivated this week knowing that I have Thursday, Friday, and Saturday off from running. My sister Chrissy and nephew Brayden arrive this afternoon. We have an exciting weekend planned with lots of fun stuff for Brayden to do along with a trip to my favorite place on earth Lululemon. Plus a 15 mile run with Chrissy on Sunday morning!

I am excited for Brayden to see our new house, even though he is only 3 I think he will love it. This is the 4th place I have lived in his short life…and every time he visit’s he always asks if we are going to Terri’s new house….must be very confusing for the little guy.

35 miles for the week

I had a pretty successful training week logging a total of 35 miles of running. I was super sore on Monday morning after my 18 mile run on Sunday. I think most of my soreness was from all of the yard work we did over the weekend rather than my run.

Monday- 4 mile recovery run around the neighborhood. I ran slow, slow, slow…..my legs were pretty much as sore as they have ever been. Our neighborhood is really shady (as in a lot of trees…not weird or creepy) so I decided to keep my run local and do 2 laps around the loop.

Tuesday- 6 miles- I think I ran on the treadmill…but to be honest I can’t really remember. I know I did it because it is crossed off may calendar...but I honestly have no recollection of it.

Wednesday- 5 miles- Vista View Park- a really hilly old landfill full of trails.  I ran a little over 3 miles and decided to head back to the car for a break and some water. I felt my back pocket and my car key wasn’t in there. I suffered a minor stroke, which two ladies sitting on a bench in front of my car witnessed. They offered a phone to me to use…but I declined and said I was going to trace my steps to look for the key before calling in an SOS to Ryan. I headed back up the hill to begin my search…and checked my other pocket on the way up, which is exactly where the key was. I still really needed water…but was too embarrassed to go back to my car and tell the ladies that the key was simply in my other pocket….so I suffered through the remaining two miles.

Saturday- 5 mile (walk)- My running buddy is now my prego buddy….so I decided to join her for a nice walk in Coconut Grove…followed by a trip to my favorite place in the world Misha’s cupcakes. I got 6 mini cupcakes and they have been gone since yesterday.

Sunday- 20 mile treadmill run- I have currently given up on doing my long runs outside. I slept in until around 8:30am and then headed to my shady gym. ( this time I really mean shady…as in there is a sign at the front desk advising gym members to leave valuables out of site and lock their cars). I don’t have much to report on this run other than it was long and boring…but I finished…only stopping a few times to reset the treadmill because of the 60 minute max.

Tonight I have my first attempt at crossfit followed by a 5 mile recovery run. The run should be easy because I am not sore at all…but I have a feeling I will be sore tomorrow morning from the crossfit. I am super excited to try it though.

Lastly….Congratulations to my sister for completing the Leesburg 20K yesterday in 2 hours and 10 minutes!

Longest Training Run So Far

Marathon training is now in full force. Last week I ran a total of 34.25 miles including my long run of 18 miles yesterday. I decided to run on the treadmill. Most people can't believe that I would run 18 miles on a treadmill but there was a lot of thought that went into my decision.

A. I absolutely hate getting up at 4am on Sunday morning.
2. It is insanely hot outside....even if I start before the sun comes up.
Thirdly. My gym may be ghetto but all of the treadmills have TVs.
D. I was up until midnight on Saturday night watching the Olympics. They have consumed my life for the past two weeks, I am thrilled that they are over.

The run went really well and I was not bored at all. I watched "Live Free or Die Hard" and caught the end the the basketball gold medal game. I thought my run would be doomed when I realized before heading upstairs to the treadmills that I had locked my locker key inside my locker (along with my gym bag, car keys etc.). I was so pissed at myself. After my 3+ hour run I went to the front desk and told the guy what had happened. They said "no problem we have bolt cutters, but unfortunately we are not allowed in the women's locker room so you will have to cut the lock yourself." You have got to be kidding me right? I told him that I would make sure everyone was decent before he came in. It took him almost 10 minutes to break the lock...and to think they expected me to be able to do it by myself.

I am currently suffering from my weekly Monday depression....mostly due to my horrible eating over the weekend. I usually eat really healthy on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then it is all downhill from there....but of course they had grilled cheese, steak fries and cream of tomato soup at work today for lunch. Who can resist that??? No one, seriously. If you can you deserve a piece of chocolate cake. (note: I must stop rewarding myself with food)

Homemade Pace Band

I was thinking of getting a pace band for my next marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon on October 28th. I figured since I have never used one it might be a good idea to try it out before making the expensive purchase. You can get them at  http://races2remember.com/Home.php ... 3 for $7.50.  They are customizable according to your race and time goal.

I am a pretty crafty individual so this is what I came up with. (Can you tell I have too much time on my hands?)

Pretty nice right?  Its just paper wrapped in a couple of layers packing tape, we will see how well it holds up with sweat dripping on it.

I plan on using it for my Wednesday night run (if it is not raining outside, using it on a treadmill defeats the purpose). I need to focus on maintaining a specific pace per mile if I want to reach my time goals. My Garmin has definitely helped manage my pace the last few months. I was never sure about the accuracy of the other things I was using, the Nike + plus race band seemed to be pretty good, but its functionality was limited. When it broke, I started using the Map My Run app on my phone, which I think is very inaccurate.

Mile 1- 9:11
Mile 2- 8:41
Mile 3- 8:11
Mile 4- 8:06
Mile 5- 8:01

In my non running life I have to write EVERYTHING down, especially numbers. So hopefully having the time goals right in front of me will help. These times are really fast for me, I mean really fast. My pace at the Lou Gehrig’s Disease 10K in May was 8:45 and that pace pretty much kicked my butt. Let’s see if all of the speed training I have been doing since then has worked!

Whole Foods Friday

Most would think it is pathetic...but this is my ideal Friday night. 5.25 mile treadmill run followed by a trip to Whole Foods. I typically don't shop at Whole Foods, but I like to pretend that I always shop there and eat super healthy. (that part might be a little pathetic)

These are the goodies I got:
  • Southwestern Citrus Edamame Salad
  • Holy Mackerel - Panic Attack Belgian Style Beer
  • Pumpkin Flax Granola
  • Organic Quinoa
  • Terra Sweet Potato Chips
  • Banana Chocolate Chip Bread
  • Coconut Chocolate Chip Cliff Bars
  • Carrot Cake Cliff Bars
The girl in line behind me said "wow, looks like you live in a fun household" based on my purchases (she was decked out in Lululemon gear may I add) . I told her that my husband was out of town which was the only reason I was getting all of these goodies.

Obviously, I have pretty much thrown out my rule of no beer drinking unless I am watching football. The Olympics may be a good reason to cheat though. I am pretty devastated that I wont get to see my boyfriend Ryan Lochte every night anymore....but life and the Olympics will go on I guess. The women's triathlon is Saturday and marathon is Sunday, not as enjoyable as drooling over Lochte....but I am still looking forward to watching.

Have a great weekend!
